submittal builder

Build trust and modernize

A submittal builder is a tool that collects product specification documents for a user to submit for the documents for project estimation and scoping. Eaton’s original method required desktop access, unsupported browsers, and three different web applications to achieve what the user needed.

solution

The solution was to design a new tool to enable users to download and share their documents as a single file from anywhere on any device—desktop and mobile. The new submittal builder was a high priority item for the Eaton team and its success was essential to build stakeholder trust.

One of the greatest outcomes of the Submittal Builder was the use of the new design system and demonstrating its flexibility across Eaton.com.

major touchpoints

  • Submittal builder for mobile

Many of Eaton’s customers and end-users work in the field and on-site. Their ability to create a submittal file from anywhere made the case for designing this tool mobile-first where traditionally many of their tools were desktop.

  • process sketch

The process to design this tool required many iterations. It was critical to start with low-fidelity concepts in order to communicate functionality, gain feedback, and refine the solution.

  • Not-so-lo-fi

In order to gain buy-in from stakeholders, I worked my way up to higher fidelity designs and functionality before delivering dev-ready designs.
