Eaton
build trust.
deliver quality.
Eaton is a large company operating in manufacturing, engineering, and power solutions globally. The company creates and distributes some of the world's most ubiquitous components and widgets from light switches to heavy components the deliver power to our homes. Eaton’s web and technology team approached us after recently adopting a new CMS platform and design system.
They needed our help. A former vendor wasn't delivering on consistency and quality with the new site while many lines of business were conflicted if they wanted to merge their business onto the site’s new platform. We needed to gain their trust while making their design system more sustainable and scalable.
product delivery

Our focus during this process was to shepherd the Eaton team to help them envision the growth they desired. We committed to work across teams following Agile/Scrum methodologies to incorporate consistent touchpoints with key stakeholders as we rebuilt their design system and added new functionality.

The original design system and its assets were faulty and could not be leveraged by the design team. I migrated most of its elements into a sketch library from photoshop and the codebase and adapted them into an atomic design framework.
At that point, the design team and I were able to rebuild the site and facilitate adoption across several of Eaton’s lines of business. Over the course of our relationship, we operated much like and product team delivering design and engaging with stakeholders.

With a fresh design system and buy-in from across the organization, the team was enabled to scale design across microsites and applications.

Submittal Builder
The submittal connects specification documents for users to download or share them as a single file. This tool was a high priority for the Eaton team and the success of this piece was essential to building stakeholder trust.
One of the greatest outcomes of the Submittal Builder was the use of the design system and the establishment of conventions used across Eaton.com.

Content Hub
Stakeholders discovered a need for users to conveniently access documents, news, and other content related to Eaton's market segments. The business desired for the content hub to be a component that resided within templates on the site rather than become a destination itself.
